The Cognition and Learning Resource Base, caters for children with moderate learning difficulties. In some case children may have additional needs.
The Resource Base, is very much a part of the main school. The children are based in the class which is known as Puffins. There is a specialist class teacher, supported by an HLTA and a Teaching Assistant. When the children begin to integrate into their mainstream class they will, where possible, integrate with support from staff in the Resource Base.
Whilst in the Unit the children receive the full range of curriculum opportunities appropriate for their year group. They are taught in small groups, and often on a 1 to 1 basis for some of the time each day. The aim is for children to work collaboratively and they are positively encouraged to use language in a variety of situations. We believe that if the children feel secure and confident in the people that they work with and their surroundings, then they will feel able to use language freely without fear of failure.
How are children admitted to the Resource Base?
